Why can’t I buy directly from Henrietta Glass? I’d rather support an artist than a store.
We would rather blow glass than sell glass! When you buy a piece of Henrietta Glass from a store you are absolutely supporting us as artists by letting us do the thing we’re good at. And – double bonus! – you are also supporting the store owners doing the thing they’re really good at, which is to say running charming, independent retail spaces where you can find the sort of handmade treasures you won’t get at big box stores.
How do you make the colors? Is the glass painted?
Everything we make starts with taking a blob of clear (colorless) molten glass out of the furnace. Then we melt in crushed bits of highly concentrated colored glass – kind of like sprinkles on ice cream, only a lot hotter. So all the colors you see are colored glass. There is no paint involved!
Do you teach classes?
No. The logistics of our studio do not allow for students or classes.
Can I visit the Henrietta Glass studio?
Again, no. Sorry! The studio is simply not set up to safely accommodate guests. (Emphasis on ‘safely’ – the glass is over 2000°f. When we say ‘hot’ glass we really mean hot!)
Do you take custom orders?
We do not take custom orders, but we are always curious about what the non-glassblowers out there are thinking, about what sort of glass they’d like to see. If there’s a glass object you’ve always wanted but never seen anyone making drop us a line and tell us about it. No promises, but you never know – you might plant the seed that grows into a future Henrietta Glass design!
