The furnace is the heart of a glass blowing studio. It runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at roughly 2000° That takes a lot of energy, either natural gas, propane or electricity.

In 2007 when we built out the original Henrietta Glass studio in the mill at 560 I chose an electric furnace. There were many reasons for my choice, but one of the biggest factors was the hope that someday the electricity would come from a clean source.

In 2016 Henrietta Glass moved out of the mill and into our own building, paving the way for my clean energy dreams to become a reality.

In 2018 we covered the studio roof in solar panels allowing us to generate over half the electricity we consume.
